How much advance notice do you need to open, close or transfer an account?
We need at least three working days to connect or move your electricity service as long as the necessary equipment already exists. The sooner you tell us, the better.
Does it cost anything to move my service?
If you are moving or opening a new account there is a $20.00 fee plus H.S.T.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
If you’re a new customer, you’ll be required to make an initial security deposit when you pay your first bill. This deposit is not necessary if:
- If you can provide a reference letter that confirms good credit history from another electric or natural gas utility in Canada. This letter must indicate good credit history for at least 24 months. Which must include the past 12 months.
- Alectra Utilities performs an external credit check that is authorized by you and that shows you have a good credit history. Our charge for this service is $15.00 plus H.S.T.
- We will waive security deposits for customers who sign up for pre-authorized payments.
If you pay a deposit, the amount will be based on factors like:
- The average monthly bill for the property or area
You can pay your deposit in installments over six months. When you have established a good payment history for one year, the deposit is returned. We pay interest on the deposit, which is calculated monthly.

What if I’m switching to an energy retailer?
The retailer will need to provide Alectra Utilities with a copy of the contract you signed with the retailer to allow us to make the change.
Do you take a final reading of my meter?
Yes. You will be provided with a final bill and the amount will not be estimated.
Can I arrange this online?
Yes, just fill out this form. When you have completed the form, please press the Submit button. You will receive a confirmation email that we have received your registration information. Please allow us five business days to complete your registration.
What if I am not currently an Alectra Utilities customer, but will be moving to a property in Mississauga?
If you are a first time customer moving to a property within Mississauga, please complete Residential Application For Service form. Please note there is a charge to set up your account. In addition, we may require a security deposit, and a credit check is available for a fee, or a letter of reference from another utility company may be faxed to: 905-566-2737
